Why convert FB2 to EPUB
FB2 is structured XML, which makes it a pleasure to convert and a problem to read: outside a handful of apps and Russian-language libraries, almost nothing opens it. Kindles, Kobos and Apple Books all shrug at an FB2 file.
Because the markup is explicit, the mapping to EPUB is close to one to one. Chapters, sections, the embedded cover and the illustrations all carry over, and Cyrillic text survives intact since the EPUB is written as UTF-8.

Does Cyrillic text come through correctly?
Yes. FB2 is XML with an explicit encoding and the EPUB is written as UTF-8, so no characters are lost.
Are the embedded cover and illustrations kept?
Yes, binary sections in the FB2 are unpacked and re-embedded as EPUB images.
What about .fb2.zip files?
